Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important official stated the attack made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
